To gym or not to gym, that is the question.

I am trying to decide whether or not I want to join a new gym. I like the gym I am currently a member of because its only $20 a month and I can have unlimited free guests. But there is no pool. Also its always crowed. I like the gym, sometimes. Mostly I like to go to the gym and be alone. Colleen and I are both members at this particular gym, it only costs me $40 a month for the both of us. Yes, I pay for Colleen to go to the gym. I need a gym buddy. Colleen and I both go to the gym for different reasons. She likes to kick her ass on the machines while I like to go slow and steady. For me a gym with a pool would be a lot of help because then I could do water aerobics and other water exercises. Colleen would benefit from the classes. The Y has two branches near our house that have pools and family memberships. Right now I am looking into if my family actually qualifies for a family membership. We are all adults, Mum is parent age, I am almost 26 (my birthday is in 8 days!), and Colleen just turned 24. Shawn doesn't count in this one since he doesn't gym.

Going to the Y would also benefit Mum. She is always in pain and I think if we took water aerobics together it would help a lot. Everyone in this house, with the exception of Colleen, needs to loose a bunch of weight. Granted I have ulterior motives to loosing weight. I want to be an egg donor and i need to get rid of a good 80 pounds. Loosing that much weight will also make me skinny again and possibly more happy and hopefully help with my health problems that keep creeping up on me.

Now, the decision is keep my gym memberships that I already have or switch to the Y. If I keep my gym membership there are no classes just on your own gyming. If I switch I have a pool, classes and regular gym. But I can always pay to go and take a class at the Y. Now it comes down to the financials and it will take me actually going to the Y and discussing my options. If I can not finagle my family into a family membership this entire deal is out. What do I need to pay like $40 per person a month when I'm only paying $40 a month now? Decisions, decisions.

  1. Whoa! The Y has gotten expensive. Let me know how the family membership thing goes -- and good luck. You are a family and you all do live in the same house!
