On Thursday, May 6th at 630 am I entered Jordan Hospitals day surgery unit. I was scheduled for an ureteroscopy at 8am. First off how do surgeons wake up that early. I had a very hard time waking at 530 and leaving at 6. I had an even harder time being very hungry and thirsty and not being allowed to drink anything.
An ureteroscopy is basically the surgeon going in through your bladder and up to your kidney checking to make sure your ureters are working properly. My right ureter was not. I knew that before the surgery. So Dr R. dilated my ureter and put a stent in. While I was under he also preformed lithotripsy which breaks up kidney stones. The stent is actually serving two purposed for me. It is making sure the dilation that Dr R preformed stays dilated and keeps the ureter open so the broken up stones can pass more easily and cause me less pain.
Dr R preformed these procedures because I am continually getting UTI's that progress into kidney infections since I don't get the symptoms of a UTI. I am sick of kidney infections they hurt. I also have kidney stones. Again something I am not found of.
Both of the procedures that were preformed yesterday are going to make my life less painful. Right now it is not. I am in a lot of pain in my lower right abdomen. Pretty much everywhere where Dr R was yesterday.
After my procedure I was in a lot of pain, pain killers were given. Even after the pain killers I was still in a lot of pain. ( Almost a day and a half later, I am still in a lot of pain) While I was in recovery I was hooked up to lots of machines. I noticed my blood pressure dropped from 124 over whatever before surgery to 90 over somethingorother after. I told my nurse because of this I felt more comfortable being admitted. She told me I couldn't. I pushed the point until I was admitted. The nurses in recovery told me I had planned my day badly if no one was going to be at my house and I was more comfortable in the hospital for the night. I did not plan my day poorly I planned it greatly. I had everyone's day down to a T. Mum drove me to the hosptial, switched cars with Shawn, went to work, went to the dentist, went back to the hospital and visited me and then went back to work. Shawn went home and went to sleep. Colleen woke up went to buy rabbit food, drove Tab home, and went to work. Had my blood pressure not dropped to a point I was not uncomfortable with I would have gladly gone home and gone to sleep. Mum works maybe a minute away. She is accessible. But since I do not know what happens when your blood pressure drops and I cant check it at home I didnt want to risk anything. Plus they told me if I pass blood clots that is bad and I need to come back. Why not just stay where I can be fixed fast? At home I have a dog and a cat who dont know how to dial 911 and a stupid bird that I could teach to say 911 but still he cant dial. I was mcuh more comfortavle at the hosptial. Even when I left around 5pm Friday my blood pressure still wasnt normal (for me) it was only 104.
The hosptial is quiet and I like being there because I do get some rest. And they bring me stuff. At home I must fend for myself, something I am not keen on. I also had an awesome nurse Leigh and an awesome CNA Joseph last night and for a little while today. They were the best out of the bunch. When they came in today I didn't want to go home since they were so nice on Thursday and always came when I needed them. Unlike the nurse I had this morning. I called the nursed station at 11a when Lacey was on her way to get me and I said I would like to know if I can be discharged now, they said let me check. I never heard from them again. After Lacey arrived I said let me try this... I called the nurses station and said I need pain meds. They said okay let me get your nurse. My nurse came in and said Dr R will be in after the office closes at 3p and then you can go home and gave me my pain meds. Poor Lacey had to take time out of her day to rescue me when they wouldn't even let me leave.
Overall I am highly medicated and am in a lot of pain. If i have to get out of bed to pee or get a drink or whatever I want to cry. If I stay in bed I just have an annoying achy stabby feeling in my side. I am not allowed to drive until Monday. I need to take antibiotics to make sure there is no infection. I ahve to watch out for blood clots or a lot of blood in my pee, if either of those happen or a fever occurs back to the emergency I go. I am going to see Dr R on Monday and maybe go back to work. I am just glad I have two more days to rest up.
Oh dear! I hope you are feeling better soon!

Sadly I still feel horrid! It hurts in places I didnt know could hurt! I actually like the hospital. There are no pets to annoy me. And dinner was excellent. I love meatloaf!
